Here in the 11 county Atlanta metro area, annual emissions tests are required for cars older than 3 years. For OBDII cars (1996 and later), the test is electronic, no sniffing. OBDI cars get put on a double roller "dyno" and sniff tested at 2 speeds (not sure if they load the rollers or not). They DO LOOK for cats, although a car can pass w/o them, they will fail you if you don't have them. What I do is install the cats when I go for testing. Pass every time. I am little worried about the next time as I have now removed the EGR and CC. We shall see. For the last 3 ears I have had my Z registered in FL (the state has no emissions testing anywhere) but come this december, I will be needing GA plates.
